The GOP's been telegraphing its ironic downfall through visual metaphots and heavy-handed symbolism for a while now, but Mitch McConnell's confused, flailing "Trump is an innocent terrorist who represents the best of our country that he's trying to destroy which is why I think he commit the crime I acquitted him of, if he runs in 2024 I'll support him although I'd much prefer he be executed for his crimes" messaging is among the most cynical and incoherent attempts by Republicans to have it both ways in a long, long time.
