Isn't this more of an object lesson about why putting 17 year-olds in charge of pretty much anything for no reason beyond the blind fetishization of youth is an extremely bad idea?

Don't get me wrong: I don't want to insult 17 year-olds by implying they're not smart enough to see through Trump's shit. I've watched that man lose a debate to himself multiple times over the course of one sentence. There's no age where supporting Trump doesn't make you a dumb asshole.

But at least someone slightly older would have, if not the better judgment, the physical memory of what previous Republican administrations were like: Every bit as corrupt, racist, and anti-intellectual, but much better at hiding it. That way, when they have to leave the party because it's no longer personally beneficial to their career, they can plausibly put on their Stupid Face and wax nostalgic about the days when Republican Presidents were intellectuals of boundess integrity and wisdom, like Richard Nixon and George W. Bush.
