If you study the Bible seriously, and are intelligent enough to not assume it's all meant to be taken at face value, then the editorial process--the "Redaction"--isn't some obscure secret known only to history and language nerds. It's a core component of how you read and interpret the Bible, both as a collection of individual works and as a completed codex.
Smart Christians don't run from this. They embrace it. Most of them see it as "God is perfect, but humans aren't, so here's our flawed, imperfect attempt to understand God with the limited intellectual and sensory tools we have."
